Japanese Lessons

The EJCA offers Japanese language classes to its members.

Japanese Language Programs are offered to EJCA members only.  Please complete the EJCA membership registration before applying to the language program: Become a Member. Membership is valid for one calendar year.  You need to renew your membership by January each year.

Classes will be cancelled if the number of applications is less than minimum numbers. Your fee will be reimbursed.
You will be on a waiting list if the maximum numbers are reached.

Registrations start August for a Fall session, December for a Winter session, and March for a spring session. 

There are four Japanese Language programs:

(1) Japanese Language Classes

    Fee: $125 (included study materials)

    Are you planning a trip to Japan and want to make the most of your experience?

    Join our Intensive Japanese Class, designed specifically for travelers who want to learn essential Japanese before their journey!


    This fun and practical course includes 5 sessions, each 2.5 hours long, with no prior Japanese experience required.
    What You’ll Learn:
    Each session focuses on real-life situations you’ll encounter in Japan:
    1.    Basic Greetings & Self-Introduction
    Learn how to say hello, thank you, and introduce yourself politely.
    2.    At the Hotel & Getting Help
    Practice checking in, asking questions, and handling basic problems.
    3.    Ordering Food at Restaurants
    Learn how to read menus, order confidently, and talk about food preferences.
    4.    Getting Around (Trains, Buses, & Directions)
    Master transportation vocabulary and how to ask for and understand directions.
    5.    Shopping, Sightseeing & Cultural Etiquette
    Useful phrases for shopping, taking photos, and understanding Japanese manners.
     You'll also learn how to deal with problems & cultural etiquette to help you feel more confident and connected during your travels.

    Whether you're exploring temples, shopping in Tokyo, or enjoying local cuisine, this course will help you travel smarter and more enjoyably!

  • Kon-nichiwa Japanese Discovery camp for Juniors 2025

    We present a unique summer camp that unveils the captivating world of Japan! A rare chance to immerse yourself in Japanese culture awaits!

    This camp is tailored for 3rd-grade through 6th-grade students with a keen interest in Japanese language and culture.

    All children who are totally unfamiliar with Japanese are welcome!

    Indulge in thrilling activities and master Japanese alongside Pokémon!

    Date:  July 14 - 18, 2025

    Time:  1 - 4 pm

    Costs: $150

    • A full refund will be given if you cancel by midnight June 30 2024 due to personal reasons. No refunds will be given after that date.

    2025 Teens Summer Camp 

    Japanese Language and Culture

    Registration starts May 10 2025

    Looking for a fun and educational summer experience for your child?

    The Edmonton Japanese Community Association is offering a week-long Japanese summer camp for teens. 

    Our Japanese summer camps are designed for teenagers who want to explore the Japanese language and culture through engaging activities and experiences, where campers not only learn basic Japanese but also experience the richness of Japanese culture.

    Camp Highlights Include:

    • Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arranging)

    • Karate (Traditional Martial Arts)

    • Japanese Tea Ceremony Experience

    • ️ Japanese Lessons through games, stories, and group activities

    No prior Japanese experience is needed—just curiosity and enthusiasm!
    Whether your child is new to Japanese or already interested in the culture, this camp will offer a fun and memorable summer adventure.

    Time:  9:30 am - 4:00 pm

    Costs: $300    Sibling Discount: 2nd child is $280
