Invitation to Origami and Movement Workshop
Fun & eye-opening Origami/Movement experience
In this workshop, participants of all ages will spend time making Miya's self-portrait origami, a playful printing of her face that we will fold together into traditional origami designs, such as the jumping frog, butterfly, paku paku and cube. The origami sculptures will then be used in an improvised movement practice led by Shion, inspired by the paper designs, folding and unfolding the body, and connecting with one another. This workshop relates to both artists’ Japanese Canadian heritage, and emphasizes identity as something formed through gesture, pressure, and process.
Performers:
Shion Skye Carter (they/she) is a dance artist originally from Gifu, Japan, based in Vancouver, Canada, on the unceded, traditional lands of the Coast Salish peoples. Shion’s artistic practice peels apart layers of identity and reflects on the complex human experience. www.shionskyecarter.com IG: @shionskye
Miya Turnbull (she/her) is a Sansei/Yonsei, multi-disciplinary visual artist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, originally from Onoway, Alberta. Her practice spans sculpture, photography, video and performance. She primarily uses mask-making as a way to explore identity and layers of self. www.miyaturnbull.com IG: @miyamask.

折り紙とムーブメント・ワークショップへのご案内
楽しく新しい発見のある折り紙とムーブメント体験
このワークショップでは、参加者の皆さんが、Miya さんと一緒に「自画像折り紙」を作ります。これは、彼女の顔を遊び心いっぱいにプリントした紙を使い、ジャンピング蛙、蝶、パクパク、立方体などの伝統的な折り紙を一緒に作ります。
完成した折り紙は、Shion さんがリードする即興的なムーブメント（身体表現）の時間に使います。紙のデザインや折り目からインスピレーションを得て、身体を折ったり広げたりしながら、互いに動きを通してつながっていきます。
このワークショップは、両アーティストの 日系カナダ人としての背景 にも関わり、アイデンティティが「動き」「圧力」「プロセス」によって形づくられるというテーマを強く感じさせられるものです。
