作家である新田次郎、藤原ていを両親に持つ数学者、藤原正彦の著書。国内外での研究生活等を基にして書かれた「国語教育絶対論」。教育だけでなくすべてにおいて母国語である日本語の重要さ、教科書内容の問題指摘、大局観の育成、パトリオティズムなど、これからの日本を見据えた日本人への総合的教育が提示されている。他に、家族での出来事を集めた「いじわるにも程がある」、出生地の満州を訪れた旅行記「満州再訪記」を収録。
