Keifukai of Edmonton

The Japanese Brush Calligraphy Group is a correspondence class that meets once a month at the Japanese Community Centre to study and practice the art of calligraphy.

The master calligrapher, Shiko Kataoka visits Edmonton every year for a workshop with the members and devotes herself to instructing members for improvement of calligraphy. She is a member of the Japan Academy of Arts (Nitten Kaiyu) and is the President of the Keifukai Calligraphy Association in Takarazuka, Japan.

Using the elegant "Kana" letters, each month the class practices Japanese Brush calligraphy from Japanese poems called "Haiku". Each member's work is then sent to Shiko Kataoka in Japan to be reviewed. The work is them marked, corrected and returned.
