The Japanese Brush Calligraphy Group
Keifukai of Edmonton
The Japanese Brush Calligraphy Group (Keifukai of Edmonton) is a correspondence class to study and practice the art of calligraphy.
The master calligrapher, Shiko Kataoka visits Edmonton every year for a workshop. She is a member of the Japan Academy of Arts (Nitten Kaiyu) and is the President of the Keifukai Calligraphy Association in Takarazuka, Japan.
The Keifukai style of calligraphy includes Japanese poems such as “haiku” and “waka” using elegant “kana” letters and “kanji” characters.
Each member submits the work based on Master Kataoka’s sample every month. Master Kataoka then reviews it and returns with marking.
